Supporting catalytic change for communities

The urgent and complex challenges facing society need more than a financial response.

We invest for the long term, bring people and organisations together to explore new ways of working – and invite others to fund alongside us to accelerate lasting change.

What we do
Circle Pink

We know that real change takes time, so we’re committed to long-term investment in people and organisations, not one-off projects.

We help families thrive by championing secure homes, greener neighbourhoods and inclusive schools. We convene people and organisations that wouldn’t usually meet, to listen, understand and turn what works into action – creating a powerful, interconnected system that supports healthier, happier, more resilient futures.

Pink Connect

A different approach to philanthropy

Knowledge matters – but connection and rooted experience are essential to supporting lasting change.

Society’s challenges need a truly collaborative approach if we’re to build the momentum for real change. We take time to listen and understand root causes, bring people together to share learnings, make connections and explore solutions. We connect those who need funding with those willing to fund alongside us, nurturing genuine partnership and collaboration. Together, we learn what works, adapt as things evolve and help meaningful change grow.

A Family Foundation

Family philanthropy sits at the heart of the Wates Family Enterprise Trust. Eight family members serve as trustees, supported by a small, expert team who manage our funding and – most importantly – build relationships with the people and organisations working across our core themes. Together, staff and trustees ensure the Trust funds and nurtures meaningful, lasting support for communities nationwide.

WFET convened a cross-sector group to explore how education, health and community organisations can better support families facing complex challenges. Fourteen organisations are now meeting regularly, building an action-learning space where stronger family engagement is becoming the foundation for more inclusive education.
